Other than holidays and a bit of ice on the roads, there has been little evidence of winter so far this season. Here at Orchard Hill most of us miss the snow, but we all appreciate a short break from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the year. Without quite as many loaves to bake or markets to attend, Winter provides an opportunity to make progress in areas that are challenging to address during busier times. This winter so far we’ve tackled some organization and cleaning jobs and planned for a new maple topped table on which all the dough will be weighed and shaped. The last and perhaps biggest undertaking of all is a new computer system which will improve how we handle all the numbers of this business from orders to ingredient weights and invoices. Each of these projects has a number of stories to go along with it, but with so much going on, I’ve run short on time to elaborate much. I guess some things never change!

   Don’t forget we still deliver to stores all over the region in winter.  We also attend the winter farmer’s markets in Keene and Brattleboro VT. Best of all, come see us here at the bakery, there’s a great selection of yummies every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
